What’s the Next Big Thing, you might ask? (And even if you don’t, I’m going to tell you anyway, because that’s the sort of sharer that I am!). It’s a blog hopping game that I’ve been asked to be a part of, sharing information on my latest book. Thanks, Kallee Buchanan for asking me to play along! So, without further ado:

1) What is the working title of your next book?

At the moment, the working title is Changing.

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?

Hmm, this is a hard one. I guess my heroine, Grace, came first – I had a very clear image of who she was and what she was doing – very independent, tough, prickly, tiny thing with red hair.  Nick, my hero, just seemed to come in naturally and then they just did their own thing while I wrote about it! Seems strange, I know, but I really only had a basic outline of what was going to happen to them.

3) What genre does your book fall under?

Young Adult Urban Fantasy (but hopefully adults will love it too – the ones who’ve read it so far have!)

4) What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

I’ve had a lot of fun looking for actors to play the characters but it’s been difficult too – none of them quite match up to the picture in my head!! So, I’ve hit a compromise – one international actor and one Australian…see what you think…

Bella Heathcote

and Molly C. Quinn as Grace

Drew Roy as Nick or

Liam Hemsworth

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

He might think that love at first sight is a piece of crap, but when Nick Larcombe experiences it with Grace Carr, he knows that nothing will keep them apart – except maybe racial prejudices, drug addled parents, the southern aurora, his own supernatural secret and maybe…death.

6) Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

An editor from a publishing agency has said that she loves my book and has pitched it to her publisher and submissions editor, so hopefully (touch wood, cross fingers and everything else I can possibly cross) they will love it enough to want to publish it.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

It was really fast – by my part-time standards anyway. Only 3 months. It’s taken much longer than that though to get it to the point where I was happy to show it around and even then, I’ve made some more changes!

8)  What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I’m terrible at this…hmmm…maybe shades of Shiver, by Maggie Stiefvater, Romeo and Juliet, and Charlaine Harris’s Grave secrets series.

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

My husband who quietly supports me in my love of writing (even though he hardly gets to be on the computer) and my 3 kids who get a kick out of the fact that their mum writes books. And some very, very treasured friends who are eager to read the next instalment and more than ready to give constructive feedback. Not to mention my great parents who’ve always encouraged imagination…wow…feel like I’m at the Oscars!!!

10) What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

A love story with a twist, set in Australia in the most beautiful location of Bruny Island at the bottom of Tasmania. A place where, if you’re there at the right moment, you can see the Southern Aurora and experience its magic…

Well, that’s me. Thanks for letting me share! I’ll hopefully have a few others to play along next week so check back to see. Don’t forget to look at my links page too…some great established and up and coming authors to pique your interest! 🙂

Love your blog. Please get back to writing your books. As a greedy book lover who adores your stories, I think you need to get back to work writing, I am ready for the next one. Molly would be great. Her eyes say there is more to her but her hair needs to be a little wilder. Drew has the face for Nick but does he have the body??? The nude seen is pretty awesome in my head. I still blush when I think about it. Innocence captured. xxxooo
